A cluster randomised trial of cloth masks compared with medical masks in healthcare workers

Conclusions: This study is the first RCT of cloth masks, and the results caution against the use of cloth masks. This is an important finding to inform occupational health and safety. Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection. Further research is needed to inform the widespread use of cloth masks globally. However, as a precautionary measure, cloth masks should not be recommended for HCWs, particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated.

Wide Disparity in State Covid Deaths

FLORIDA, TEXAS, AND CALIFORNIA HAVE A FRACTION OF COVID DEATHS OF NEW YORK
Clay Travis, Outkick – Aug 3, 2020
h/t logprof on A♠

…In fact, it’s not just that New York and New Jersey are awful compared to the other states in this country. These two states literally have the worst death rate in the entire world.

By a huge margin.

Look at the data comparing New York and New Jersey to death rates anywhere else in the world on a per capita basis:

New Jersey 1,792
New York 1,685
Belgium 849
England 680
Spain 608
Peru 594
Italy 582
Sweden 568
Chile 502
United States 478

I mean, this is flat out unbelievable.

There were five northeastern states with a higher coronavirus death rate than anywhere else in the world.…

We don’t really have a nationwide coronavirus issue, we had a complete collapse of governance in the northeast back in March and April and it led to a panic that caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

Rather than try to scare you to death with fear porn laden stories about outbreaks producing a pinprick of deaths compared to New York, every media member covering the coronavirus should be investigating New York and other northeastern states and find out what went wrong there.

Politicians in New York didn’t just do an awful job of protecting their states, they may have been criminally negligent.

I read the following…

Fauci is seriously a very bad man.

Let 10 children die in AIDS test even after he knew deaths were to high.

Spent AIDS research money on parties and funding for AIDS testing, zero prevention.

Started WHUFLU testing when Obama shut down CDC testing for:
1. Losing antrax
2. Keeping live polio in wrong type lab
3. Continuously studying foreign viruses on US soil

So he contracted out the virus weaponization to Wuhan to get around Obamas orders.

Dr. Anthony Fauci’s 15 Totally Wrong Predictions and Contradictions

Mark Simone, 710wor – May 12, 2020

It’s hard to believe but America’s top Infectious Disease Doctor Anthony Fauci has been wrong on the coronavirus pandemic —Every step of the way!

Here is a list of several errors, contradictory statements and dangerous gaffes by NIAID Director Dr. Tony Fauci

1.) Dr. Fauci says he warned Trump in January that the US was in real trouble but that is not what he said publicly.

In January Dr. Anthony Fauci told Newsmax TV that the United States “did not have to worry” about the coronavirus and that it was“not a major threat.”

2.) Dr. Fauci warned of an apocalyptic coronavirus pandemic — then just weeks later he compared the coronavirus to a bad flu.

3.) Dr. Fauci based all of his predictions on models the that were OFF BY MILLIONS and then later told reporters,“You can’t really rely on models.”

NIH Tested AIDS Drugs on Foster Children
NPR – May 27, 2005
Article does not mention Dr. Fauci specifically.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press reported that researchers at the National Institutes of Health had tested AIDS drugs on hundreds of foster children in the late 1980s and ’90s. In many instances, allegedly, the drugs were given without having independent monitors assigned to the children, which is the law in most of the states where these tests were conducted. Dr. Jonathan Fishbein, an AIDS research expert at the NIH, has criticized his agency for what he says is irresponsible drug testing.

Dr. Fauci backed funding for controversial Wuhan lab studying origin of coronavirus

Covid Credibility Lost – Contradictory Epidemiology Pronouncements & Fraudulent Statistics

n mid-February, when overseas reports about the Wuhan Virus were getting pretty scary, Fauci told us “There is no reason for anyone right now in the United States, with regard to coronavirus, to wear a mask”. It was a Scientific Fact™ that masks don’t help.

More. Fauci: Risk of coronavirus in USA is ‘minuscule’; skip mask and wash hands

Scientific Facts™ change fast when the political winds dictate, however, so Fauci’s previous scientific ramblings about masks were discarded for new and more politically helpful scientific pronouncements. Fauci says ‘everyone’ should wear masks to curb spread of coronavirus

How about Fauci and hydroxychloroquine? Well, he’s consistently inconsistent.

The Virology Journal – the official publication of Dr. Fauci’s National Institutes of Health – published what is now a blockbuster article on August 22, 2005, under the heading “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.”

By May 2020, however, Fauci found his tribe demanding he get in line with Team Anti-HCQ, so he obliged. Fauci: Hydroxychloroquine not effective against coronavirus

Of course, by July it had become clear that HCQ is effective, Treatment with Hydroxychloroquine Cut Death Rate Significantly in COVID-19 Patients, Henry Ford Health System Study Shows. So all sides are now in general agreement that when it comes to HCQ, Fauci is an addled old man who can’t keep his stories straight. Fauci’s Lies and the Political Cowardice of Mask Mandates

William Sullivan – American Thinker – July 27, 2020
h/t J.J. Sefton’s Morning Report on A♠

Like anyone who’s paid the slightest bit of attention during this pandemic, you’ve probably noticed how the narrative regarding cloth face masks has evolved. Back in March and April, the surgeon general assured Americans that masks are “NOT effective in preventing the general public from catching #Coronavirus,” so people should “STOP BUYING MASKS!” The pre-eminent Dr. Fauci similarly assured us that there’s no reason for Americans to be wearing masks, because they offer a false sense of security, they cause people to incessantly touch their faces to adjust them, and most people don’t wear them correctly, anyway. The World Health Organization concurred, saying the general public should not be wearing masks.

An interesting theory has emerged to explain how this once-government-sanctioned, sage advice evolved to become “everyone must wear cloth masks in all public settings or others will die,” followed by statewide mandates to have everyone wear masks in public places. It has been openly asserted by Dr. Fauci, and genuinely believed by many, that all of these public health officials and organizations actually knew that wearing masks is an effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19 back in March and April, but they engaged in a coordinated conspiracy to deliver the opposite advice, in unison, because they wanted to avoid a public frenzy that would disrupt supply chains for medical masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers.

You’d have to climb out onto a pretty weak, thin limb to believe that’s true. I’ve seen an awful lot of people wearing masks around since the beginning of the pandemic, and few of them are wearing anything resembling medical equipment. Many of them are wearing nothing more than ordinary pieces of cloth. If Dr. Fauci had actually believed, as he seems to believe now, that loosely wearing any common rag over your face might be effective in preventing COVID-19 spread, there would have been nothing to prevent him from saying so.

If masks truly work, how many millions were infected before he advised Americans to wear them? How many died as a result of his lie?

Inescapably, we must conclude that either Dr. Fauci was lying to the American people back in then, as he now says he was, or, much more likely, he’s lying to us now by telling us he was lying to us back then. I’m not sure which is worse, but it really doesn’t matter — the chief public health official in the United States government lying to the American people is a breach of public trust that should be unforgivable, and there is absolutely no reason to believe anything else he says with regard to public health.…

I have no source links for the following. Yet.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and the leading medical face in the fight against the coronavirus, says his family has become the targets of what he calls “serious threats.” That includes against his wife and his daughters.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the comments on “The Axe Files” podcast with David Axelrod.

Fauci said that back when he was giving the nation advice during the AIDS pandemic, he would get some hate mail. But he said what he’s receiving now is something else — rooted in anger.

“Serious threats against me, against my family, my daughters, my wife. I mean, really? Is this the United States of America? But it’s real,” Fauci said. He said he’s been given additional security.

Fauci said he’s just doing his job and is not the hero some people are making him out to be.

“There are people who get really angry at thinking I’m interfering with their life because I’m pushing a public-health agenda,” he said.

How Do You Know… Who’s Politicizing, Really?

House lawmakers want reversal of Trump’s COVID-19 reporting changes, cite ‘politicization of public health’

Trump Administration required hospitals to stop reporting stats to CDC
Marisa Schultz, Fox News – July 19, 2020
h/t Vic on A♠

House Democrats overseeing the coronavirus response called on the Trump Administration to reverse a decision that directed all hospitals to stop sending daily COVID-19 data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Hospitals were instructed starting July 15 to bypass the CDC and send daily patient information to the Department of Health and Human Services through a system operated by a contractor, TeleTracking.

“We urge you to reverse this decision, restore this data collection role to the CDC, and take all necessary steps to ensure that essential data is collected and publicly reported free from political interference,” three House Democrats wrote in a letter to the Trump Administration.  “We are concerned that this decision may represent yet another example of the Administration’s continuing politicization of public health during the coronavirus pandemic.”

If you dig down into the article, you can find this:

Trump Administration officials cited a lag time of at least a week in the CDC reporting system.

CDC Director Robert Redfield backed the decision and said the new process will streamline reporting and will provide rapid ways to update the type of data collected.

“No one is taking access or data away from CDC,” Redfield said Wednesday.…

Which makes me wonder why

In an op-ed published Tuesday in the Washington Post, four former CDC directors – who served during both Republican and Democratic administrations – accused Trump and top coronavirus task force officials of politicizing scientific data released by the national public health institute.

Of course, “served under… Republican… administrations” is not necessarily a positive credential. Projection.

The COVID Coup

Angelo Codevilla, American Mind, July 17, 2020
h/t SMH on A♠

Panicked by fears manufactured by the ruling class, the American people assented to being put essentially under house arrest until further notice, effectively suspending the habits, preferences, and liberties that had defined our way of life. Most Americans have suffered economic damage. Many who do not enjoy protected status have had careers ended and been reduced to penury. Social strains and suicides multiplied. Forcibly deferring all manner of medical care is sure to impose needless suffering and death. In sum, the lockdowns’ medical and economic dysfunctions make for multiples of the deaths and miseries of the COVID-19 virus itself.

Bad judgments and usurpations—the scam, not the germs—define this disaster’s dimensions. The COVID-19’s devastating effect on the U.S. body politic is analogous to what diseases do to persons whom age (senectus ipsa est morbus) and various debilities and corruptions had already placed on death’s slippery slope.

First they said, it’s just a mask, but it really doesn’t do anything so you don’t need to wear it (unless you’re in a hot zone in a hospital setting);
Then they said, it’s just a mask, and you should probably wear a mask if you’re in contact with a lot of people;
Then they said, it’s just a mask, and you need to wear one if you go into a business that we have graciously allowed to stay open;
Then they said, it’s just a mask, but you must wear one in a business or we’ll close down the business;
Then they said, it’s just a mask, and if you don’t wear one in public we’ll fine the heck out of you, charge you with a misdemeanor (or felony) under non-legislative administrative law, and haul you into court;
Then they said, it’s just a mask, but you must wear one indoors in your own home (while remaining in full view of the surveillance cameras)!

I can hardly wait for tomorrow’s health tip!

Africa to Become Testing Ground for “Trust Stamp” Vaccine Record and Payment System

A new biometric identity platform partnered with the Gates-funded GAVI vaccine alliance and Mastercard will launch in West Africa and combine COVID-19 vaccinations, cashless payments, and potential law enforcement applications.

The program, which was first launched in late 2018, will see Trust Stamp’s digital identity platform integrated into the GAVI-Mastercard “Wellness Pass,” a digital vaccination record and identity system that is also linked to Mastercard’s click-to-play system that powered by its AI and machine learning technology called NuData. Mastercard, in addition to professing its commitment to promoting “centralized record keeping of childhood immunization” also describes itself as a leader toward a “World Beyond Cash,” and its partnership with GAVI marks a novel approach towards linking a biometric digital identity system, vaccination records, and a payment system into a single cohesive platform. The effort, since its launch nearly two years ago, has been funded via $3.8 million in GAVI donor funds in addition to a matched donation of the same amount by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The 100% Masks Myth

Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) commenting on A♠ at July 17, 2020

Ah, my favorite description of face mask requirements yet shows that if 100% of people wear highly-effective masks, then transmission should collapse. Okay.

Anyone want to find out where enough N95s for a 330 million population to wear several per day will come from? And who’s going to enforce the absence of facial hair for the entire population? And how many people are going to be dedicated to enforcing good mask behavior and practices?

I’ve always said, if just one generation would engage in proper sexual behavior, sexually transmitted diseases would be eliminated. No problem, eh?

AlaBAMA replied:

N95 isn’t designed to stop viruses, which measure in the microns. It’s all kabuki theatre.

Joe Mannix replied:

Eh, they don’t need to. Naked viruses floating around are pretty rare. N95s effectively block the wet complexes that carry them around in suspension. But they’re hard to breathe through.

Can’t resist temptation chimed in:

But what is the exposure after the N 95 captures the wet complexes that contain the virus?

rickb223:

And they leave it in the shopping cart at Wal Mart because there is no biohazard containment system in place to dispose of them?

Joe Mannix:

Yup. Yet another reason that “good mask practices” would need to be rigidly enforced. And good luck with that.

Let us begin with the premise that wearing a mask properly, in the proper situations, will without doubt reduce the chances of someone transmitting COVID-19 from themselves to others.…

In general, the way almost everyone uses their masks is not sanitary, and likely increases the chances they are breathing more pathogens than if they were not wearing a mask at all. And as they do this, they are making themselves oxygen deficient, while rebreathing a lot more carbon dioxide, which at high levels can be poisonous.…

…these mask orders are in general irrational, and involve a whole range of irrational and thoughtless decision-making, by health officials, by governors, and by citizens. If anything, the mask appears to have become not a method for protecting public health but for exhibiting the ignorance of its user.
