Flu Facts, Believe it or don’t

On Social Distancing:

Horowitz: We have been lied to: 6 facts that change everything we know about SARS-CoV-2

Daniel Horowitz, Conservative Review – May 18, 2020

6) Social distancing was invented by a high-school kid and politicians, not scientists: Jeffrey Tucker of the American Institute for Economic research reports that the origin of this cult of “social distancing” being used for totalitarian lockdowns was the brainchild of a high schooler’s sociology paper in 2006, promoted by the Bush administration during the avian flu. It was widely mocked by the epidemiological community, including by Johns Hopkins, for “causing the potential for a ‘serious adverse outcome,'” thereby ensuring that “a manageable epidemic could move toward catastrophe.”

How have we allowed such an illogical approach to crush our liberties, economy, hospitals, education, and criminal justice? How have we lost our freedoms?

The answer is that the public is not getting the right information. This is why the political class is doing everything in its power to censor anyone who dares question the idolatry of this lockdown cult. YouTube has censored the videos of Knut Wittkowski, who was a top epidemiologist in Germany and then served as the head of biostatistics, epidemiology, and research design at Rockefeller University. One would think we’d want to hear his opinion, but there is only one view that is allowed to gain traction. Why is it that only one side is scared of the information of the other side?

As James Madison warned, “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”

Facts about COVID-19

Swiss Policy Research

Fully referenced facts about Covid-19, provided by experts in the field, to help our readers make a realistic risk assessment.

  1. According to the latest immunological studies, the overall lethality of Covid-19 (IFR) is about 0.1% to 0.3% and thus in the range of a severe influenza (flu).
  2. For people at high risk or high exposure (including health care workers), early or prophylactic treatment is essential to prevent progression of the disease.
  3. In countries like the US, the UK, and also Sweden (without a lockdown), overall mortality since the beginning of the year is in the range of a strong influenza season; in countries like Germany and Switzerland, overall mortality so far is in the range of a mild influenza season.
  4. In most places, the risk of death for the general population of school and working age is in the range of a daily car ride to work. The risk was initially overestimated because many people with only mild or no symptoms were not taken into account.
  5. Up to 80% of all test-positive persons remain symptom-free. Even among 70-79 year olds, about 60% remain symptom-free. About 95% of all people develop at most moderate symptoms.
  6. Up to 60% of all persons may already have a certain cellular background immunity to the new coronavirus due to contact with previous coronaviruses (i.e. cold viruses). The initial assumption that there was no immunity against the new coronavirus was not correct.
  7. The median age of the deceased in most countries (including Italy) is over 80 years (e.g. 86 years in Sweden) and only about 4% of the deceased had no serious preconditions. The age and risk profile of deaths thus essentially corresponds to normal mortality.
  8. In many countries, up to two thirds of all extra deaths occurred in nursing homes, which do not benefit from a general lockdown. Moreover, in many cases it is not clear whether these people really died from Covid-19 or from weeks of extreme stress and isolation.
  9. Up to 30% of all additional deaths may have been caused not by Covid-19, but by the effects of the lockdown, panic and fear. For example, the treatment of heart attacks and strokes decreased by up to 60% because many patients no longer dared to go to hospital.
  10. Even in so-called “Covid-19 deaths” it is often not clear whether they died from or with coronavirus (i.e. from underlying diseases) or if they were counted as “presumed cases” and not tested at all. However, official figures usually do not reflect this distinction.
  11. Many media reports of young and healthy people dying from Covid-19 turned out to be false: many of these young people either did not die from Covid-19, they had already been seriously ill (e.g. from undiagnosed leukaemia), or they were in fact 109 instead of 9 years old. The claimed increase in Kawasaki disease in children also turned out to be exaggerated.
  12. Most Covid-19 symptoms can also be caused by severe influenza (including pneumonia, thrombosis and the temporary loss of the sense of smell), but with severe Covid-19 these symptoms are indeed more frequent and more pronounced.
  13. Strong increases in regional mortality can occur if there is a collapse in the care of the elderly and sick as a result of infection or panic, or if there are additional risk factors such as severe air pollution. Questionable regulations for dealing with the deceased sometimes led to additional bottlenecks in funeral or cremation services.
  14. In countries such as Italy and Spain, and to some extent the UK and the US, hospital overloads due to strong flu waves are not unusual. Moreover, this year up to 15% of health care workers were put into quarantine, even if they developed no symptoms.
  15. The often shown exponential curves of “corona cases” are misleading, as the number of tests also increased exponentially. In most countries, the ratio of positive tests to tests overall (i.e. the positivity rate) remained constant at 5% to 20% or increased only slightly. In many countries, the peak of the spread was already reached well before the lockdown.
  16. Countries without lockdowns, such as JapanSouth KoreaBelarus and Sweden, have not experienced a more negative course of events than many other countries. Sweden was even praised by the WHO and now benefits from higher immunity compared to lockdown countries. 75% of Swedish deaths happened in nursing facilities that weren’t protected fast enough.
  17. The fear of a shortage of ventilators was unjustified. According to lung specialists, the invasive ventilation (intubation) of Covid-19 patients, which is partly done out of fear of spreading the virus, is in fact often counterproductive and damaging to the lungs.
  18. Various studies have shown that the main routes of transmission of the virus are neither long-range aerosols (i.e. tiny particles floating in the air) nor smear infections (i.e. on surfaces), but direct contact and droplets produced when talking or coughing. However, in some circumstances, indoor aerosol transmission appears to be possible.
  19. There is still little to no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of cloth face masks in healthy and asymptomatic individuals. Experts warn that such masks may interfere with normal breathing and may become “germ carriers” if used repeatedly.
  20. Many clinics in Europe and the US remained strongly underutilized or almost empty during lockdowns and in some cases had to send staff home. Millions of surgeries and therapies were cancelled, including many cancer screenings and organ transplants.
  21. Several media were caught trying to dramatize the situation in hospitals, sometimes even with manipulative images and videos. In general, the unprofessional reporting of many media maximized fear and panic in the population.
  22. The virus test kits used internationally are prone to errors and can produce false positive and false negative results. Moreover, the official virus test was not clinically validated due to time pressure and may sometimes react positive to other common coronaviruses.
  23. Numerous internationally renowned experts in the fields of virology, immunology and epidemiology consider the measures taken to be counterproductive and recommend rapid natural immunization of the general population and protection of risk groups.
  24. At no time was there a medical reason for the closure of schools, as the risk of disease and transmission in children is extremely low. There is also no medical reason for small classes, masks or ‘social distancing’ rules in schools.
  25. Several medical experts described express coronavirus vaccines as unnecessary or even dangerous. Indeed, the vaccine against the so-called swine flu of 2009, for example, led to cases of severe neurological damage and lawsuits in the millions. In the testing of new coronavirus vaccines, too, serious complications and failures have already been reported.
  26. A global respiratory disease pandemic can indeed extend over several seasons, but many studies of a “second wave” are based on very unrealistic assumptions, such as a constant risk of illness and death across all age groups.
  27. In several places, nurses described an oftentimes fatal medical mismanagement of Covid patients due to questionable financial incentives and inappropriate medical protocols.
  28. The number of people suffering from unemploymentdepression and domestic violence as a result of the measures has reached historic record levels. Several experts predict that the measures will claim far more lives than the virus itself. According to the UN 1.6 billion people around the world are at immediate risk of losing their livelihood.
  29. NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden warned that the “corona crisis” may be used for the permanent expansion of global surveillance. In several parts of the world, the population is being monitored by drones and facing serious police overreach during lockdowns.
  30. A 2019 WHO study on measures against pandemic influenza found that from a medical perspective, “contact tracing” is “not recommended in any circumstances”. Nevertheless, contact tracing apps have already become partially mandatory in several countries. In some countries, such “contact tracing” is carried out directly by the secret service.

The Corona Walkers of Mask Nation — and their Motivation
Deciphering what we’re up against.

Jack Kerwick, Front Page – Fri Aug 7, 2020

In a recent essay, I shared with readers the findings of the research of world renowned medical specialists from several continents that expose the propagandist and demagogic character of the COVID-19 Scare for what it has always been.

Both intellectually and morally, then, those of us who refuse to succumb to the pathological fear-mongering that has visited immeasurable suffering upon well over a billion human beings worldwide have the high ground.

Political elites—elected politicians and such unelected Deep State actors like veteran bureaucrat Anthony Fauci—and their collaborators in the establishment media know as well as most of the readers of this column that, while there really is a virus to which some have died, the latter has been exploited and blown wildly out of proportion in order to advance the material ends, i.e. the economic, electoral, and ideological interests of those who labor tirelessly to convince the rest of us that it is the Black Plague 2.0. …

But while we know why self-interested, opportunistic politicians, bureaucrats, journalists, commentators, and other celebrities have toed their party’s line and labored inexhaustibly to wreak havoc among America, it is undoubtedly the case that the legions of everyday citizens who have reduced themselves to Corona Walkers—the citizens of Mask Nation—are sincerely, genuinely consumed by fear that they will die from The Virus. …

Given the ubiquity of The Virus Con, with its Orwellian subversion of daily language and the revocation of American liberties that it has entailed, those who would have otherwise been just virtue signalers can now be “virtuous victim” signalers.

Inasmuch as the Corona Walkers can don their masks and castigate others for not doing the same, they can at once showcase their commitment to (allegedly) safeguarding the well-being of others while styling themselves victims who are being jeopardized by those selfish, scientifically illiterate Deplorables! …

Final Phase of Our Self-Degradation

A Fatal Loss of Face

h/t Braenyard on A♠

…Increasingly, beholding one another in the street — masked, visored, alert for the slightest incursion into our personal six foot of space, jumping out of our skins at the slightest cough, sniffle or sneeze — it is becoming clear that we no longer look upon one another and perceive the iconic shape of the human being in history — limbs, trunk, head, face, gaze, smile — but see instead a moving blob of festering matter, biofluids, glands, adipoctytes, viruses, microbiota, fungi, yeasts, acids, maggots, phage, proteins, stool and mucus — oozing, sweating, belching, snorting, wind-breaking, weeping, puking, seeping, urinating, excreting organisms riddled with mostly imperceptible orifices, from which are expelled unpleasant and deadly liquids, substances, gases, odours and pathogens. To paraphrase the Killers’ song, are we human or are we (bio)hazard?

How strange that, while emotional incontinence is increasingly valued and praised, physical human effusions are ever more anathematised. Where once human beings aspired to being gods, we now appear to have entered the final phase of our self-degradation: perceiving ourselves predominantly as a pestilence on the earth.…

Wide Disparity in State Covid Deaths

FLORIDA, TEXAS, AND CALIFORNIA HAVE A FRACTION OF COVID DEATHS OF NEW YORK
Clay Travis, Outkick – Aug 3, 2020
h/t logprof on A♠

…In fact, it’s not just that New York and New Jersey are awful compared to the other states in this country. These two states literally have the worst death rate in the entire world.

By a huge margin.

Look at the data comparing New York and New Jersey to death rates anywhere else in the world on a per capita basis:

New Jersey 1,792
New York 1,685
Belgium 849
England 680
Spain 608
Peru 594
Italy 582
Sweden 568
Chile 502
United States 478

I mean, this is flat out unbelievable.

There were five northeastern states with a higher coronavirus death rate than anywhere else in the world.…

We don’t really have a nationwide coronavirus issue, we had a complete collapse of governance in the northeast back in March and April and it led to a panic that caused tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

Rather than try to scare you to death with fear porn laden stories about outbreaks producing a pinprick of deaths compared to New York, every media member covering the coronavirus should be investigating New York and other northeastern states and find out what went wrong there.

Politicians in New York didn’t just do an awful job of protecting their states, they may have been criminally negligent.

She also tested positive for Kung Flu, though the doctors emphasized that, if she was Covid-positive, the typical markers weren’t showing up in her blood work and they were absolutely certain that Covid was not a contributing factor.

Guess what my appears on my mother’s death certificate? Yep, Covid.

Anti-mask protesters’ new weapon: wearing masks that offer no COVID-19 protection

Face masks made of mesh, crochet (yarn) or lace are now popular items being offered by online retailers.
Bob Segall –  July 17, 2020

INDIANAPOLIS — As more communities and businesses adopt mandatory mask orders, supporters of an “anti-mask” movement are looking to make a statement. They are wearing masks that cover their nose and mouth but provide no ability to slow the spread of disease.

“I wore a mask that is designed for protecting your face in a paintball battle. You can easily breathe through it. I walked all around the store, talked to employees, and other shoppers, and every one of them could see my mouth,” said a Florida man who posted a video showing him wearing a mesh mask to a Tampa Walmart. “It was almost like not wearing a mask at all. Nobody cared. That’s because it’s not about safety. It’s all about compliance.”

Are “anti-mask protestors” kind-of like militant atheists? I mean: why? Objecting to mandates, sure, but someone else wants to be masked, ain’t my problem.

Church Was Never Meant To Be Masked

…Although government health guidelines at the time required masks indoors but not for outdoor religious gatherings, our elders instituted the mask rule for our congregation. They did so out of ample caution, care for our members, and to help the church whose lot we were using to maintain good relationships with its neighbors. After our pastors asked us also to maintain six feet of distance between each other, outdoors no less, masks seemed excessive as a means of promoting caution and care.

Protecting the reputation of the church who graciously shared its property with us seemed reasonable and charitable, but I couldn’t help but wonder whether we had crossed from virtue to virtue signaling…

“Do you see your friends?” my mom asked me.

I looked around, squinting as if that would give me X-ray vision through fabric. “I can’t tell, Mom. Everyone’s faces are covered.”…

It was strange to leave the gathering of my church more broken in spirit than when I had arrived.…

Dr. Anthony Fauci’s 15 Totally Wrong Predictions and Contradictions

Mark Simone, 710wor – May 12, 2020

It’s hard to believe but America’s top Infectious Disease Doctor Anthony Fauci has been wrong on the coronavirus pandemic —Every step of the way!

Here is a list of several errors, contradictory statements and dangerous gaffes by NIAID Director Dr. Tony Fauci

1.) Dr. Fauci says he warned Trump in January that the US was in real trouble but that is not what he said publicly.

In January Dr. Anthony Fauci told Newsmax TV that the United States “did not have to worry” about the coronavirus and that it was“not a major threat.”

2.) Dr. Fauci warned of an apocalyptic coronavirus pandemic — then just weeks later he compared the coronavirus to a bad flu.

3.) Dr. Fauci based all of his predictions on models the that were OFF BY MILLIONS and then later told reporters,“You can’t really rely on models.”

Article does not mention Dr. Fauci specifically.

Earlier this month, the Associated Press reported that researchers at the National Institutes of Health had tested AIDS drugs on hundreds of foster children in the late 1980s and ’90s. In many instances, allegedly, the drugs were given without having independent monitors assigned to the children, which is the law in most of the states where these tests were conducted. Dr. Jonathan Fishbein, an AIDS research expert at the NIH, has criticized his agency for what he says is irresponsible drug testing.

Fauci’s Lies and the Political Cowardice of Mask Mandates

William Sullivan – American Thinker – July 27, 2020
h/t J.J. Sefton’s Morning Report on A♠

Like anyone who’s paid the slightest bit of attention during this pandemic, you’ve probably noticed how the narrative regarding cloth face masks has evolved. Back in March and April, the surgeon general assured Americans that masks are “NOT effective in preventing the general public from catching #Coronavirus,” so people should “STOP BUYING MASKS!” The pre-eminent Dr. Fauci similarly assured us that there’s no reason for Americans to be wearing masks, because they offer a false sense of security, they cause people to incessantly touch their faces to adjust them, and most people don’t wear them correctly, anyway. The World Health Organization concurred, saying the general public should not be wearing masks.

An interesting theory has emerged to explain how this once-government-sanctioned, sage advice evolved to become “everyone must wear cloth masks in all public settings or others will die,” followed by statewide mandates to have everyone wear masks in public places. It has been openly asserted by Dr. Fauci, and genuinely believed by many, that all of these public health officials and organizations actually knew that wearing masks is an effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19 back in March and April, but they engaged in a coordinated conspiracy to deliver the opposite advice, in unison, because they wanted to avoid a public frenzy that would disrupt supply chains for medical masks and personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers.

You’d have to climb out onto a pretty weak, thin limb to believe that’s true. I’ve seen an awful lot of people wearing masks around since the beginning of the pandemic, and few of them are wearing anything resembling medical equipment. Many of them are wearing nothing more than ordinary pieces of cloth. If Dr. Fauci had actually believed, as he seems to believe now, that loosely wearing any common rag over your face might be effective in preventing COVID-19 spread, there would have been nothing to prevent him from saying so.

If masks truly work, how many millions were infected before he advised Americans to wear them? How many died as a result of his lie?

Inescapably, we must conclude that either Dr. Fauci was lying to the American people back in then, as he now says he was, or, much more likely, he’s lying to us now by telling us he was lying to us back then. I’m not sure which is worse, but it really doesn’t matter — the chief public health official in the United States government lying to the American people is a breach of public trust that should be unforgivable, and there is absolutely no reason to believe anything else he says with regard to public health.…

I have no source links for the following. Yet.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and the leading medical face in the fight against the coronavirus, says his family has become the targets of what he calls “serious threats.” That includes against his wife and his daughters.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the comments on “The Axe Files” podcast with David Axelrod.

Fauci said that back when he was giving the nation advice during the AIDS pandemic, he would get some hate mail. But he said what he’s receiving now is something else — rooted in anger.

“Serious threats against me, against my family, my daughters, my wife. I mean, really? Is this the United States of America? But it’s real,” Fauci said. He said he’s been given additional security.

Fauci said he’s just doing his job and is not the hero some people are making him out to be.

“There are people who get really angry at thinking I’m interfering with their life because I’m pushing a public-health agenda,” he said.

The 100% Masks Myth

Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) commenting on A♠ at July 17, 2020

Ah, my favorite description of face mask requirements yet shows that if 100% of people wear highly-effective masks, then transmission should collapse. Okay.

Anyone want to find out where enough N95s for a 330 million population to wear several per day will come from? And who’s going to enforce the absence of facial hair for the entire population? And how many people are going to be dedicated to enforcing good mask behavior and practices?

I’ve always said, if just one generation would engage in proper sexual behavior, sexually transmitted diseases would be eliminated. No problem, eh?

AlaBAMA replied:

N95 isn’t designed to stop viruses, which measure in the microns. It’s all kabuki theatre.

Joe Mannix replied:

Eh, they don’t need to. Naked viruses floating around are pretty rare. N95s effectively block the wet complexes that carry them around in suspension. But they’re hard to breathe through.

Can’t resist temptation chimed in:

But what is the exposure after the N 95 captures the wet complexes that contain the virus?

rickb223:

And they leave it in the shopping cart at Wal Mart because there is no biohazard containment system in place to dispose of them?

Joe Mannix:

Yup. Yet another reason that “good mask practices” would need to be rigidly enforced. And good luck with that.
